BRUEGHEL the Younger
Short biography of Brueghel the Younger
Pieter Brueghel the Younger, was the elder of the two brothers born just a few years before their father's death. He soon became known as "Hell Breughel" because of his fascination with painting the grotesque in general, and hobgoblins and fires in particular. He established his career in Antwerp, where he became a master in the guild in 1585. He followed in his fatherīs footsteps by becoming best known as a copyist of several his father's scarce works. In his own paintings, such as The Crucifixion and The Village Fair, he proves his mastery of space and movement. His son, Pieter Brueghel III, born in 1589, also came to be known primarily as a copyist.
