  • Biography:

Possibly the greatest painter that ever lived , experts claim that he produced the largest quantity of masterful works of art. His works hang in museums all around the world. He was born in the city of Seville, Spain, where he was a disciple of Francisco Pacheco, whose daughter he later married.

After his first trip to Madrid in 1623, he was hired to stay on as a court painter in the court of Philip IV (Felipe IV). He would spend the rest of his life in the service of the royal court, in different ranks, eventually reaching the pinnacle position of curator of the court, which caused a dramatic decline in his personal production. Being in charge takes time.

He traveled several times to Italy, sent there by the king, where he painted several works which caused a big ruckus in Rome. He died on the return trip from the Islands of ( pheasants ) Faisanes where he had accompanied the king to his meeting with king Louis XIV of France.

Velazquez was sometimes called “the painter of the truth” .
