Dolmen from El Soto, Trigueros, Huelva.
Dolmen from El Soto -ca. 3.000-2.500 b.C.- stands at the land “La Lobita”, in municipal region of Trigueros. It is one of the most important megalithic buildings at Peninsula. It has been satisfactory preserved and has never been spoilt. Because of that, eight squatting bodies with their household furnishings could be found there.
Discoverings and researchs at Dolmen are due to its owner, Sr. de Soto. Therefore, he gave it his own name. It is covered by a tumulus with a soft slope, a circular plan and white earth.
It belongs to the so-called dolmens of “Gallery” and is one of the greatest found in Peninsula. It is ca. 22 m. high and gets wider at the burial chamber area: from 0,80 m. to 3,10 m. wide. Gallery is formed by megalithic stones at walls. They show remainings of paintings and forms. Cover is also composed by great stones lacking many of the gallery. They were probably used for other buildings before this one was scientifically discovered. Today it has been restored. |
